So much I can say about this place. GM Gary Wilson is a humble and straight forward teacher. It's very rare to be able to get instruction directly from someone with such a high rank (the highest it gets). He is well known and respected in the Kenpo world and created a system great for self defense. I'm enrolled along with all four of my daughters. Highly recommended for all ages.

I have been involved with Martial Arts for over 50 years. When my grandson developed an interest in karate, American Family Kenpo Karate is where we chose to go. I have known Gary Wilson and his senior board member for many years. Mr. Wilson strives for excellence in the development of all students. The instructors are well trained and qualified and the environment at the school is like that of a family. Group classes provide the tools for students to grow together in friendship as they develop their self defense skills. I highly recommend AFKK for anyone looking for a great school to learn self-defense.

AFKK teaches a martial arts system that has its roots in the Ed Parker system of karate. It is an excellent form of exercise and a great source of mental and physical strength. At Mr Wilson’s school students are taught self defense skills that give them the confidence that they need to deal with threatening situations. And it also teaches them how and when to use their skills. Instructors are well trained and certified. Mr. Gary Wilson has dedicated many years to teaching self defense and is highly qualified. Great choice for those looking for a self defense system and friendly atmosphere.

I was a student at American Family Kenpo Karate from 2008 to 2017, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. The instructors are highly skilled and dedicated, fostering an environment of discipline, respect, and community. The training, which focused on Kenpo Karate, challenged me both physically and mentally, while also teaching valuable life lessons like perseverance, humility, and respect for tradition. The dojo felt like a second family, with supportive and welcoming students and instructors. My time there helped me grow not only as a martial artist but also as an individual, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great martial arts community and solid training.

Master Wilson is an awesome instructor and very nice guy. He spent most of his life training and teaching in the martial arts. He has a lot of experience in fighting and training students in competitive tournament fighting. Gary is very easy to communicate with and he motivates his students. I like how he offers both group classes and private lessons which I take often. His monthly costs are very reasonable. I love the Kenpo program because you really learn practical techniques for self defense and Gary has streamlined the Kenpo program in a new and unique 4.46 program to teach you only the best practical techniques 👍 So if you want to get fit, have fun, meet nice students and staff, and of course build self confidence then check out American Family Kenpo today 👊

I began training with Master Wilson at 19 years old. Mr Wilson coached and trained me to win the 2012 American Open aswell as many other championships. The leadership and training at his studio is first class. If your in San Diego and wanting to learn a beautiful martial art, American Family Kenpo Karate is the place to go.
